Greek & Latin

CUA Greek & Latin Department Home Page

The function of an education in classical studies is threefold: first, to examine revolutionary ideas; second, to learn to speak articulately; and third, to explore examples of conduct to guide us in our lives. Many people see classical studies as a narrowly focused field of study. In fact, it is the most interdisciplinary of disciplines, as it is the basis of all the Western humanities.

Students in CUA's programs in classical studies approach the Greeks and Romans not only through their writings and history, but also through art and architecture, archaeology, religion, sociology and anthropology.
